Electrochemical Hydrodimerization of Furfural in Organic Media as an Efficient Route to Jet Fuel Precursor

Abstract Upgrading biomass‐derived compounds to value‐added products, especially fuels, represents a green route alternative fossil fuels energy sources. Here, we report an efficient electrosynthesis of jet fuel precursor hydrofuroin from furfural, which is one the most valuable derived biomass. Despite high value this process, few studies have been focused on development synthetic strategies for electrocatalytic hydrodimerization furfural hydrofuroin. In work, systematically examine how operating parameters, including electrolyte, applied potential, concentration, and catalyst nature affect efficiency in organic media. We show that under optimized conditions, can be carried out simple undivided cell with faradaic (up 74 %) excellent yield 100 %).
